Reinvest in GR

Overview

The Coalition for Community Owned Safety's initiative, Reinvest in GR, aimed to educate and mobilize residents around the city budget and investment in their communities. Did you know that the city budget is 600 pages long and over 70% goes to police and fire? Yikes!

The initiative focuses on 6 subcommittees - physical health, mental health, affordable housing, police accountability, environmental sustainability, and equitable economic development.

Our team was tasked with live streaming 5 community meetings, creating a promo to attract local residents to attend the meetings, and producing a 10-minute mini-documentary to inform the community about the initiative.

Mini-Documentary

Our 10-minute mini-documentary captures the essence of the Reinvest in GR initiative, featuring interviews with key organizers from each of the six subcommittees. We highlighted the key takeaways from the community meetings and offer some practical solutions for reinvesting in Grand Rapids.

Promo

After the first few meetings we decided to put together a promotional video to encourage the public to come out to the next community meeting. Attendance at the following meetings far exceeded our expectations. People came out in droves to share their voice and discuss their feelings about the city budget.
